Reflections

"He leadeth me beside the still waters."
  Ps.23
"Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."---"In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength."       Isaiah 26:3 and 30:15.

If you feel drawn to be still, begin in this simple way - give your attention, (what our Lord Jesus calls the single eye), to Him.  Realize that it is a real calling from the Lord.  Remain faithful to listening to His still, small Voice.
Our Lord will bless even the smallest seed of attention, and will enlarge and increase it, eventually bringing you to walk more and more with a single eye towards Him.
If you become distracted, with your thoughts scattered here and there, simply return to that small seed of attention to Him. Pray some Scripture verses, and as you read them, don't become discouraged if you get distracted.  Offer that up to Him.  He knows our frame and remembers that we are dust.  He is faithful to establish our hearts in this calling.
In stillness we find many treasures for the spiritual life.  It is that space in His Presence from which we can freely move and live in Him.  May all of our steps and thoughts be from that place.
